Goals: Flabbo, Joe

Excellent performance yesterday. With many people away and absent we still managed to put out a 14 players. 816 fielded their strongest team, which finished 4th in Div one last year.

We started brightly and looked comfortable moving the ball around with Nana working tirelessly up front with Jens supporting. The midfield was strong with new recruit Gabriel and Mehdi taking control in the early exchanges. We played 3 thirds. The first third was closely contested and ended 0-0.

In the second third we lost a bit of momentum when Gabriel twisted his ankle and took no further part. Flabbo replaced Gabriel in midfield, Tony replaced Darren at left back. Soon we were in front, when some excellent hold up play from Nana who laid off the ball to Flabbo who slotted home. As the third drew to a close we went 2-0 up, and lovely solo effort from Joe, who switched inside from the left and unleashed a ferocious right footed shot with the keeper beaten all ends up.

The final third was a war of attrition as both teams struggled in the afternoon heat. However, we were solid at the back With Tarik, Bertie, Briggsy and Tony/Darren restricting 816 to only long range efforts, which were easy for H in goals. The midfield worked extremely hard containing a strong and young 816 outfit. Mehdi and Jens worked their socks off and Lionel and Joe looked threatening on the wings. Bobby provided some relief for some tired bodies and we managed to hold onto a deserved 2-0 victory.
