Goals: Nathan & Jeff
A bitter pill to swallow, as we saw a 2-0 lead get reversed in an enthralling second half.
With originally 19 names down for the game, this gets whittled down to 15. We start with H in goals, Tarik, Ben, Andy and Stef in defence, Mehdi, Aidan, Scouse and Joe make up the midfield with Nathan supporting Jeff up top. The first half is very scrappy, both sides are limiting any clear cut scoring chances. I think both sides are happy to go in at the break only at 0-0.
The discussion at the break is very constructive and we feel we can get something out of the game. We start the second half brightly and within 5 mins are 1-0 up. Nathan latches onto some good work in midfield to volley home. Within 10 mins we are 2-0 up.
The constant pressure on the Antonhill defence tells, as Jeff picks the ball on the edge of the box, goes round one defender and lashes home in typical fashion. Antonhill are rocked and we keep up the pressure, with Joe and Mehdi on the flanks always threatening. Unfortunately, as we look more assured Antonhill grab a lifeline and score a scrappy goal.
Then halfway through the second half the pivotal moment. Antonhill get down the right and swing a ball across the area for the oncoming striker to slot home. The linesman flags immediately for offside and the referee awards a free kick. The Antonhill players and management surrounds the lineman who still has his flag raised and direct verbal abuse in his direction.
The referee then goes over to the linesman confers, then amazingly awards a goal to Antonhill 2-2. Flabbo make some changes, Rick Man for the injured Joe and Lionel for Andy B. At this stage the game is balanced, but the decision has clearly stunned us and we are unable to find any rhythm. Then Antonhill grab an undeserved winner. Nana comes on for Nathan for the final few minutes, but it’s all too late and we go down 3-2.
As a unit we played some good football in periods. The central pairing of Scouse and Aidan dominated the midfield. Although conceding 3 goals the back four was solid, with Ben and Tarik dominating the Antonhill strikeforce.
However, for a superb display MOM: Tarik.
