Goals: Ash, Ben

After putting in a good performance in the cup, we went into this crucial game with a strong squad & confidence high, to gain the points to push us back into contention against a team that got relegated from division 1 last season. We start with Bertie in nets, back four of Stef,Ben,Scottie & Olivier, midfield of Jeff,Rob,Jay & Ash, with Joe & Macca up front, together with an unbelievably strong bench with loads of players beginning with M.

We start off trying to bring the ball down from the sky, where most of the game is being played by mobsters, with long balls coming in left,right & centre & if we didn’t know by the team talk that this was going to be a physical game, it certainly didn’t take to long to get the jist, maybe a little slow off the blocks in the physical department, but we started to pass the ball around & try to use the pace of Jeff & Ashley on the wings, as they were going to cause the dodgy looking wing backs problems all day long.

However the Spartans bench looked on in stunned silence, as mobsters took an advantage to sneak in behind the back four with the winger maybe getting a slight touch from stef & going down faster than something that go’s down fast? (attach Comment here). Penalty.

Some pikey looking player steps up & slots the ball past Bertie leaving him with no chance, 1.0 down early doors, time to play football.

The team now stepped up to the plate, as Joorzey Jay would say & played fairly well in parts, moving the ball quickly & creating some good chances, while competing with & dealing well with the physical challenge put before us, we started to get on top & it was only a matter a time before we would score. 

A move starting on the left with the ball at pace again being switched over to the right ended with Ash, who briefly looked over to his girlfriend, gave her a little wink & slotted the ball nicely past the keeper to bring us level, we were now on top, there was only one team wanting to play football & only one team trying to stop that, mobsters didn’t cause us any problems from set pieces, through great defending from our back 4 & Bertie as usual collecting all the high balls with comfort, resulting in their forward coming in late to try to upset the big man & put him off his game, no chance there, unfortunately the Ref got it verbally with both barrels & now Bertie has the same yellow cards, in goal this season, that he had for the whole of last season playing centre back, Henry be prepared.

We continued to pressure with some good inter play through the midfield with Rob & Jay working hard to close down & control the middle of the park, which enabled our wingers & Joe & Macca to get on the end of some through balls and cause the chubby keeper a few difficult moments, then as we were in the box from another great bit of play down the left by Jeff crossing the ball with the second phase coming out to Ben, not sure what he was doing so far up the pitch anyway, but a bit of class (or more likely luck), the balletic Center back got his leg up so high, he nearly took his own teeth out & nestled the ball in the back of the net, leaving chunky pants keeper stranded, 2.1 up & flying.

The game resorted into mobsters being potty mouths, dropping f-bombs everywhere, while we concentrated on playing our passing style, with macca being put through with some great play, only for him to leave his shooting boots with the jager bombs he was having the previous evening, but we’ve all been there, some more than others, the half finished with a few free kicks given away but nothing to cause Bertie any real problems.

More of the same required in the second half. 

But the second half went basically a bit like this. We attack, pass the ball to the opposition, they attack, we win the ball easily, our back line again playing particularly well, a sub comes on starting with M, adds power pace & energy to the team plays really well, we attack again and again, Rob has a great effort saved by the keeper who somehow gets down to palm his shot around the post, another sub again starting with M, outstanding performance, they attack, but their version of attacking doesn’t actually involve threatening our goal, another sub, you can guess what his name starts with, Rob starts shouting something, I think about his hair & how it was looking, we continue to pass the ball to the opposition & they continue to kick it out of play, while abusing anyone they can, a final sub with Moo Moo coming on, that’s what his girlfriend calls him anyway & we see out the game with plenty of high fives,handshakes with the opposing players….Not.

Well done lads, a good fightback, with the resilience, mental strength, Commitment & concentration at the level we need to stay at especially with the next tough game against the french, who have moved up to 2nd spot, lets shove it up them wednesday night.
