Spartans Masters commanded the game from start to finish with the Grasshoppers a very distant second.

Steve G doing what comes naturally scoring with a header within the first few minutes to setup  the tone for the night. Shortly afterwards Andy Mitchell puts us 2 nil ahead with some nice interplay between him and the midfield. At this point we were on cruise control when a lucky strike from 30 yards out found the back of the net with little James could do about it. However order was restored just before the break when Nathan weaving run catapulted with a lovely driving low shot gave the keeper no chance to put us 3-1 at the break.

The second half we never looked in danger and the goals kept ticking over with the menacing Andy Mitchell once again finding the back of the net with some great lead up and unselfish work from Fela. Randy superb strike from outside the box made it 5 before Dimitri clever chip over the hapless keeper made it 6. Nathan round off an excellent night when he smashed the ball in from a corner. We could have easily scored more missing some big chances including the gaffas header from 2 meters out but all in all it was a solid performance by our lot who were never really tested at any degree on the night.

James had a little to do tonight but pulled off a great save at the end and looked super composed in goals. The defence was outstanding and the central pairing of Islam and Tarik combination worked a real treat nullify any attack they might have. Hoy and El Tel were winding back the years with nice interplay between them while Tony Choi and Mr Westerby was solid as ever in defence. Midfield and Mr Ogden passion for the Spartan was all there to see spurring the boys and passing and tackling his heart away for the cause. Stefan and Stevie G were all class and dominated the game as if it was their own both very influential players in the spine of the side.

Fela got into the game with time and at the end his pace and strength was causing them all sorts of problems and will shine even more when we play stronger opposition. Dimitri cool under pressure helped settle the game for us looked at ease on the pitch. Lionel the Burmese Bomber was Mr Consistent on the right and Hao as usual causing a nuisance for their defenders. Randy after a long UK flight and a beer with me before the game produced a wonderful goal.

MOM for mine however was Tarik who was absolutely superb in defence, we never looked in danger while he was there and his strength, skill and reading of the game was second to none.

A great night afterwards with the boys racking up the sponsors miles at Verns Beach house in Stanley for the Saturday boys before heading to the Masters primary sponsors Joe Bananas followed by Rios for even more beverages before calling it a night/morning.

Next week no doubt will be a much sterner test, with a few ex-pros and two draws in friendlies last season Discovery Bay will be a much harder proposition. Same place, same day and time.
