Goals: Forlan, Hermod
An earlier kickoff than usual still saw a full turnout and with a few late comers we had a strong squad against a tough Mes team. Mes missing a few key players were still a formidable lineup and the earlier exchanges where fairly even.
As the first half went on we started to show our mettle and with some terrific interplay we were creating a number of chances. Steph had a good chance early along with Steve G to take the lead. On the other end a scrambling corner we somehow cleared to keep the game level midway through first half. Little was in the game at this stage with Mes defence being well organized and hard to break down.
However it was a terrific piece of Forlan magic which broke the deadlock. Forlan first touch beat a Mes player before cutting inside to beat another then using his pace beat another before cutting back and slotting it into the back of the net of the keeper who had no chance. It was a truly quality goal from the young lad who has come into his own this year with some terrific goals. This set the tone for us and we continued to show much confidence going forward.
It wasn’t long before Hermod beat the Mes Amis offside trap. A with a cool head slotted the ball in the back of the net to bring us our second. A few calls from Mes side about off side but Hermod seem to be well onside. Half time and all was looking good.
The second half saw Mes fight harder. An early error by us saw Thomas Ma pull off a terrific save to keep the score line at bay. This was a key save in the context of the game. The game leveled itself over time, we had a few chances to put the game at rest but we couldn’t take them.
With 10 minutes to go the ref missed a blatant handball from us which could have made the final minutes very interesting. However in the end the better team won and another fine performance saw us notch our 5th victory in the row.
Everyone played well and hard to really pencil out anyone for MOM honors. Credit to the defence with Jan, Briggsy, Bertie and Thomas D along with Mav playing well. Midfield was pure class and setup the platform with Steve G, Aiden and Rob shining. Out wide both Joe and Steph caused loads of problems and upfront we were irresistible with Forlan, Hermod and Simon causing havoc in a well toiled defence.
MOM goes to Forlan who’s goal was pure class and gave us that crucial lead in the first half.
