Goals: Forlan, Simon D

In a rather hottish day at Kowloon Tsai a somewhat new Spartans side took on table topping Goodfellas team. First half we played really good football and Goodfellas where under the pump for much of the half. A keeper error after Simon shot saw a quick thinking Forlan snap the rebound to put us one goal up early doors. We had a few more chances to go further ahead but failed to take them. As the half drew to a close Steven Yeung who was playing another blinder blew his knee and looks to be out for the season. After carrying him off Simon was on hand to give us a cushion lead at half time with another goal..

The second half was a different game and Goodfellas got back into it. Few chances where created by either side until about 15 minutes to go when the league top goalscorer had two good chances to get Goodfellas back into the game. He failed to take both however with 7 minutes to go a clearance which ricochet off Steph fell in the hands of the Goodfellas striker who slammed it in the net. The last 5 minutes saw everyone in defence, although Forlan had the best chance breaking free on counter after a nice Jeff Suzuki pass he rounded the keeper with the goal at his mercy didn’t get enough on it and the defender scrambled back to clear it. In the end the two first half goals were enough, however we can count ourselves a bit lucky as we struggled a bit in the second half against a very strong Goodfellas outfit. Given the number of new players we had playing it was a terrific effort and an important win.

Everyone played well Simon Duff along with Forlan were outstanding  in the first half with Hermod creating a lot and taking on defenders at will. Jeff Suzuki who will be back with us hopefully in the new year was superb in second half. The midfield was marshaled by Aiden who’s class shone throughout the game. The loss of Steven Yeung was a huge blow for us as he was having a sterling game.  Out wide Joe and Gez where having good games while our back four where terrific with Jan and Bertie controlling the centre and both Steph and Islam providing excellent backup.  Thomas Ma was solid in goals and had an error free game in this close encounter.

MOM: Aiden.
