In a very one sided game we somehow managed to lose a game which we dominated for long periods of time. Revolution only goal and probably only chance was a big hoof downtown which we fail to clear.
We had countless opportunities in this game. Their keeper who was new kept Revolution in the game with several unbelieveable saves in the first half. One from a Forlan strike I still can’t believe how he managed to get a hand to it. Hermond had a great chance to put us head when totally unmarked in the box 6 yards out with a header he somehow didn’t manage to get to. A penalty should have been award after Hermod got totally taken out by the keeper only for the linesman to rule it went out??? It was baffling decision. Then against the run of play with just a few minutes left in the first half we conceded a goal against the run of play, from a simple punt down field. It certainly wasn’t fair but that’s football.
The second half Sam was a virtual spectator in our goal as we spent the majority of the half in Revolution end of the field. Chance after chance fell. We hit the post six yards out. Forlan’s cross saw an open goal with a last minute bobble beating Hermod on terrible pitch. A shot from Steve G which went wide and the keeper holding on somehow to several other shots from Forlan. Steve G went on one of his mazy runs before been cruelly taken out by two Revo players in the box, the ref waved play on to everyone’s amazement.
With only minutes remaining Nick wriggled around 4 Revo players and smashed the ball in the 6 yard box only for it go to straight to the keeper, a meter either way and it was a goal. Revo’s only chance in the half came from our back pass which saw it bobble up before Sam attempting to clear it and agonizingly went wide.
We played some very good football however luck certainly wasn’t on our side today. A better pitch and referee the score could have easily been 4-1 to us.
