Goals: Hermod 4, Joe Mc 2, Matt C, Mav.

 

Spartans took on league strugglers Legal Head on a hot day at Happy Valley astro. With a few late pull outs we had bare 13 which included the gaffa and SOS call to randy from his luxury flat nearby. Legal Head on the other hand had recruited quite a lot players including several past and present Spartans and had a big contingent to start with at kick-off.

 

Kick-off and the game started quite even both teams playing decent football. However it was Hermod clever play which got him behind their defence and calmly put the ball in the back of the net to put us up one nil early doors. Moments after the goal Legal Head counter and a cross from the left saw their striker do a bicycle kick which was brilliantly saved by Thomas Ma. An important early save in the piece to keep the advantage. It wasn’t long before Hermod once again nipped the ball off the Legal Head defender beating two players and placing the ball in the net for his second. Hermod continued to terrorize the Legal Head defence and was heading to goal before hacked behind by their defender who was lucky to be staying on the pitch.

 

However Hermod completed his hat-trick on the 25th minute with another goal. By this time players started feeling the heat and changes started happening pretty quickly at one stage we were playing with 10 men and Legal Head subs were hiding behind the grandstand no one wanted to come on.

 

Half Time was a welcome relief for most and a few changes with Randy coming down to help. We started the half were we left off and a terrific overhead kick from Matty Combs gets his first Saturday Goal for the season. Players were lining up now and Joe was on hand to slam home his first of two. Then Mav found himself free in the box and hitting his first goal for quite some time.

Legal Head look like scoring shortly afterwards with a bullet header when Thomas Ma pulled off another great save tipping the ball on to the cross bar.

 

Hermod rounded off our 8th with his fourth goal of the day after some unselfish play from Joe. Legal Head had a penalty at the death but a poor shot saw the ball go wide and we kept our clean sheet.

 

Commanding performance against a team who looks like they will struggle this year. Everyone played well Stef and Rose commanding the midfield. Centre back pairing of Scotty and Thomas D were solid and kept another clean sheet third on the trot. Other defenders Sean and Dan both had a good games out wide. Matt was ever dangerous on the left midfield position with a cracking goal, while Mav also played well both out wide and in the centre when needed. Hao and Randy keeping possession well also having solid games.

 

Not a hard game but the big test this week against Monopoly will set the scene for the rest of the season for sure. Early doors but an excellent start to the season for sure.
