And so on to game 14 of the season where our opposition allegedly Island United turned out to be another team all together.

Playing on a nice astro surface we started with the following formation:

GK: Leandro

D: Sanj, Tony, Miles, Chi

M: Rob, Jay, Rory, Ed

S: Rich and Pat

The opposition were quick, nippy, skilful and we had our hands full the first half. We were lucky to come away with a 0-0 draw but we battled hard and kept in the game even though they had a lot more possession than us. Miles played excellently at the back commanding as always and Leandro on his final game was excellent in goal. Chi was marking a very quick player and the ball kept on going out to him all the time, the highlight was Chi’s Pat esq Kung Fung Kit straight into the chest of the opposition to earn him a yellow and thus enhancing his reputation as Chi “chopper’ Harris.

The 2nd half was a lot more entertaining and the following changes were made: Tom for Jay, Leandro for Pat, Willie for Edd and Nav for Chi. We start the 2nd half a lot better and we have a few attacks before Willy who goes to cross it to Rich somehow ends up in the back of the net instead boggling the gloveless keeper to make it 1-0.

After a few attacks we give the ball away in the midfield which results in them scoring a goal out of nothing which should never of been a goal to make it 1-1. A few more efforts between Willy and Rich getting closer (after numerous times being offside) finally Rob plays a lovely diagonal ball over to Rich who crosses it to Leandro who is waiting to pounce and scores to make it 2-1.

After more pressure from them a long ball over the top sees their defender head it on to Rich who runs on to it chests it and then lobs the on rushing goal keeper to make it 3-1. Chi is chomping at the bit to get back on and comes on for Sanj at Right back with Ed coming on for Willie who has played well just running out of steam.

And so it ended 3-1. I thought a draw would have been a fair result especially at half time as they were a very good team but we managed to win it in the end taking our chances even though they had more.

Some stand out performances Leandro played well in his last game, Nav battled well when he came on, Tony played well in defence Sanj was solid. Rory worked all day marking a quick player, Willie made some good runs and Rob, Tom and Jay class as always Toby Flood battled hard, Chi was chopping the opposition down and running his heart out but man of the match has to go to Miles who played excellently with booming kicks, and his overall game was excellent.
