Under the Friday night lights saw us take on Willy Lee and co in the form of United Kingdom. It was a pleasure to see all 16 players there early and ready and even warming up before kick off.
After a small talk about not letting them play the ball around and getting stuck into them we started with the following formation:
GK: Leandro
D: Sanj (C), Andy B, Dan H, Tony C
M: Andy H, James, Chi, Jeff
S: Jorgen and Willy
We started off brightly not letting them play and getting stuck into them at every opportunity. They were faster and more skilful than us but every time they tried to go forward they were meet by 2 – 3 guys hassling them and trying to get the ball off them breaking up their play.
Willy and Jorgen worked tirelessly up front and Jorgen was rewarded with a goal in the first half with a great finish.
Playing the best half of football I remember the nite Spartans playing it was hard to make changes at half time but as is the policy to let everyone get a game Ean, Pablo, Hermant and Florian all came on with Chi, Jeff, Dan and Tony all coming off.
The 2nd half we again got stuck into them hassling them from the very start. United Kingdom have not won a game all season and it is easy to see why, they have the skills, speed and flair but do not play as a team. Towards the end of the 2nd half they start to put the ball over the defence which starts to cause us some problems but we hang on to include a moment of madness from one of their players. Their striker went through on goal beat Leandro and the ball was about to go into the net until one of their players decided to kick it in himself only for him to be ruled offside! A lucky escape and we all know who is getting mug of the match for their team!
We end up doing a few more subs to give everyone an equal run out and end up coming out with the win. We did the double of this team this year so a great result.
This has to be one of the best performances of the season to date along with the 2nd game against DB dragons. Everyone who played worked their socks off, tackled, tracked back and gave 100%. The game was played at a good pace and we played well all over the park. The defence was solid with Leandro playing well in goals, the defence was solid with Andy B often calmly playing the ball out. Andy H and James in the centre mid were solid on their debuts, which could be the new centre mid paring based on their performance. The wingers worked hard with Florian having a good debut. Willy and Jorgen were excellent up front with Willy running non stop and hassling, he looked like a man possessed at some point, it must have something to do with wanting to get one over his Scottish mates. Jorgen was excellent on his debut, with some great skills who clearly could be a Yau Yee 1 player hint hint Paul Hoy sign this player up!
Hard to pick a man of the match as I could almost pick every player so in fact I will, man of the match goes to the whole team this week, great performance.
