Great result yesterday after the Xmas break.

 

It was good to get back to winning ways after a disappointing loss to HKSS just before Xmas.

 

It was pretty much one way traffic for most of the first half, but we were unable to force an advantage until 10 minutes to half time. Nana jiggling through the defense saw his effort blocked; the ball fell to Mehdi who hammered home. Could have easily been 2-0 soon after, but Henry’s bullet of a shot smacked into the crossbar. 1-0 half time.

 

The second half started off very casually and we could have easily conceded early on but for some resilient defending. We still continued to pressure Colloids with Scouse and Knowlesy controlling the midfield. The second goal was crucial and it eventually came from 2 unlikely sources…..a Flabbo header off a Lionel corner….2-0.

 

Spartans were in cruise control now and we threatened to add to the score. However, some persistent play from Colloids saw them get a goal back with 12 mins to play. At this stage (after using all 3 of ours subs) Henry tweaked a muscle. Knowles went back into the back four, I supported Scouse and H went up front. We battled hard and were rewarded with only a few mins left on the clock, when Simon on the left crossed…the ball ricocheted off the defenders foot onto the arm. Penalty. Dubious as it was….it was rightly given. So just as I was about to step up and take the penalty…I hear Knowlesy shout “I”VE GOT THIS”. He steps up and coolly slots home. 3-1.

 

A great performance all round. The midfield controlled the game from the off. The strikers worked hard. Reuben was solid in goals, but I must say the defense of Tarik, H, Briggs and Tony were awesome.
